  • SUCCESS IS JOURNEY...

First in the series of 5 promos in the lead up to the 2021 Paralympic Games.

  • UNSUNG, Wanda

BrandPlay has undertaken a major self-funded project to tell the stories of some of this country’s unsung heroines and heroes. These are the people who make significant contributions to our communities without seeking recognition, credit or reward. They do it because they’re driven to improve the lives of others and we do it because their stories are an inspiration to us all. They don’t get much more inspiring than Wanda, the subject of our first Unsung story.

  • UNSUNG, Mark

Mark Rushton is a disability advocate and creator of the first cricket competition for the intellectually impaired, BlowFly Cricket. A true survivor, Mark demonstrates in every way what it takes to triumph over physical and mental adversity.

  • LOVE, LOST & LONGING

Sensual and tactile, artist Craig Waddell’s work celebrates both the sublime and the imperfect. Laying down paint, wet into wet, he destroys, renews and resurrects images from everyday life. We visited Craig in his pop-up studio on the farm where he grew up on the fringes of Sydney to explore what drives him.

  • DARK ARTS

Paul Murray has built a reputation as an artist who explores the rough edges of human experience, often with tragedy and sorrow, but also wit and humour. We wanted to delve deeper into the dark side of his art and follow his process of creating extraordinary paintings and sculptures from his studio in Canberra. In “Dark Arts” we witness Paul creating a new sculpture while hearing first hand the honesty and vulnerability of his story.

  • CATHERINE ABEL

It’s not every day you get to sit down and talk to a successful artist about what makes them tick. We did just that when we visited the thriving artistic community of Trentham in the Central Highlands of Victoria. Catherine Abel is renowned internationally for her striking figurative oil paintings which she creates in her in a light-filled studio in Trentham. This inspirational part of the world combines the romance of old with a contemporary energy, much like Abel’s work itself.

  • PUTTER KING

A suburban putt putt course, colourful characters, world records and a 24-hour campaign to sink 1500 holes-in-one to raise money for sick kids. What’s not to love about this story? So we stayed up all night following Putt Putt legend Allan Cox and his fellow enthusiasts to see them beat the world record within 7 hours and raise over $9,000 in one night for Westmead Children’s Hospital.

  • SHAYNE THE SPRUIKER

With heroes like Dale Carnegie and Shanghai Charlie (hawking legend of Sydney’s Paddy’s Markets in the 70’s) and a mentor like his dad, the notorious hypnotist Doc Carson, we were very eager to meet Shayne the Spruiker. Shayne reckons he could sell underwear to a nudist and we spent a couple of days with him and his P.A as he strutted his stuff along the strip malls of suburban Sydney, selling almost anything to anyone who would listen.

  • BRIGHT

We saw Founder Tim Davies on the ABC one night and called him the next day to offer our support. Bright Employment helps migrants and migrant communities find meaningful employment in industries like agriculture and hospitality across Australia.

  • PUSH FOR POLIO

Brendon Walker had a big ambition to help eradicate the second human disease in history. Polio – a disease that has disabled millions and pulled many people further into poverty – has been reduced by more than 99% and a unique window of opportunity exists to end polio for good. After acquiring a push scooter, Brendan got to wondering how far he could ride it to beat the world record and raise money for the cause. Turns out he needed to beat the record held by American Daniel Nielsen who rode across the United States covering a distance of 3,827 kms. We created the video to launch his campaign and help him raise awareness and money for the cause.

  • MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY FOUNDATION

It’s incredibly difficult for charities to get their voices heard above the noise – so many good causes, so many people in need. Even harder for charities like MDF when people don’t really understand what muscular dystrophy is, who it affects, and how it affects their lives. Instead of explaining the facts, we followed a day in the life of one special 10 year old boy Kyle with muscular dystrophy.
